Consider Appliances

You’ll want to take into account your appliances and how you use them. You don’t want to be bending over to access the microwave, on the other hand you don’t want to be reaching up to get your hot bowl of food! So consider the appliances you use often and how you use them.

Island Benches

An island bench is a great solution for opening up your kitchen, it creates a central space to use for prepping or eating. An island bench creates a divide between spaces in an open plan home without compromising the “open” element, making it a great option if you’re hoping to have a spacious and modern kitchen.

Accessibility

One of the biggest issues people run into when designing a kitchen is the small details. It’s critical to think about the accessibility of everything- there’s nothing worse than realising that your kitchen doesn’t have good flow. Think about where the sink is, and in turn where the dishwasher will be in relation to the sink- you don’t want them far from each other. Similarly, you want drawers and cupboards to be in practical locations, easily accessible and in areas where they won’t open onto each other. 

Lighting

Something so simple, but crucial is the lighting for you kitchen- not only do you need to think about where your lights will go, but you should also remember that the switch position will greatly affect the final result of your kitchen- you don’t want to be fumbling in the dark to find the light switch. There are so many incredible lights available, however, a kitchen isn’t necessarily the place to choose an aesthetic light. Think about your prep areas, where it might be more beneficial to have simple downlights instead of an ornate light.
