Preparing for a Renovation

The renovation process is an exciting time, but it can become overwhelming when considering the finer details. In order to prepare for your renovation we’ve listed some things to consider.

Prioritise:
Whether you’re renovating due to necessary fixes and updates or simply to create a fresh space, you’ll want to create a list of what you want achieved at the end of the renovation. When it comes completing renovations that are needed to make your home the most functional and safest space, it’s important to prioritise. There’s no point in finishing a gorgeous renovation if you haven’t ensured that your home is secure and not going to fall apart.
Check the Laws:
This is an important step and one that you should do first. You don’t want to get started on your renovations only to be stopped by the council! This particularly applies if you are in a heritage listed home. There are a number of rules and restrictions surrounding the character homes, and these can often limit what you can and can’t do. Other laws apply to most renovations, however, the team at Finesse Projects are experienced and know how to approach and help you understand these laws.
Sort Your Finances:
Even if your finances are not a priority, we highly recommend putting a budget in place. This will provide some control when making decisions throughout the entire process. It’s important to allow extra budget for unexpected costs. We do our best to stay within your budget, however sometimes things that are out of anyone’s control occur, so it’s better to be prepared!
Packing:
Depending on your renovation, you may need to pack up your home, especially breakables! Usually it’s only a room or two that will need to be cleared. Renovations are a great opportunity to cull some of those unnecessary items that sit in your home collecting dust!
Find a Builder:
One significant step is ensuring that you choose an appropriate builder. You want to feel confident in the team that is working on your project. The team at Finesse Projects will ensure that you are comfortable and kept up to date throughout the entire process. Our many years of experience has prepared us for all types of renovations, so we can deliver a high quality finish to any project.
Kitchen Renovations
Consider your Current Space:
Before settling on a kitchen renovation, you should first make sure that the space you do have is going to accommodate your plans. Our team can provide guidance with this and if necessary we can take extra measures to make your plans work. This could include changing your plans or reconfiguring your space.
Prepare:
A kitchen renovation can pause your everyday life, so you’ll want to think ahead, especially for meals! Whilst takeaway is a convenient option, you might want to prepare a few meals to put aside.
The Neighbours:
Whether you’re familiar with your neighbours or not, it’s courteous to keep them up to date when you’re starting renovations. We are able to let you know when the louder construction will be taking place, so you can keep them informed too.
Bathroom Renovations
Have a Backup:
Similar to kitchen renovations, bathrooms are a significant part of everyday life. If you have more than one bathroom, then we suggest working on one bathroom at a time. Otherwise you’ll need to organise a backup bathroom, whether that involves borrowing the neighbours bathroom or hiring one.
Buy Functional and Beautiful Features
When it comes to choosing the tapware and other features you don’t have to sacrifice aesthetic for functionality. There are lots of brands that have stylish but functional options, so no matter your style you’re bound to find something to suit you and your home.
House Raises
Raising your home is a great way of creating more space in your home without compromising on land area. Generally, house raises don’t require the interior of your home to be cleared out. However, you will need to consider the exterior spaces. Decks and stairs will need to be removed in order for a seamless raise to occur. The landscaping may also need to be removed or rearranged in order for equipment to get through.
